Double the fun, double the learning

Through the Big Give, every donation is doubled bringing joyful, inclusive education to children like Amma, who once struggled to stay focused in class.

Hands up who thinks learning should be fun? We do!

Children with special educational needs struggle to thrive when being taught in a rigid, rote way. They need to be able to move around the classroom, having their senses stimulated to fire up their brains and to learn.

That’s where your support comes in! This Christmas, all donations are doubled through the Big Give which will help children like five-year-old Amma, who has attention and concentration difficulties, stay focused and excel in school.

Wriggling in seat her Amma really struggled to stay focused on her work in class. Her teacher couldn’t understand why Amma was falling behind. While her peers were learning to read simple words Amma was failing to retain her letters and sounds. And as her friends started to add up single digit numbers Amma wanted to get up and run.

Thanks to our teacher training in Ghana, teachers are trained to identify special educational needs and how to tailor teaching to ensure all lessons are inclusive and accessible for all learners.

“After my training, I learned to effectively teach learners like Amma. I developed an Individual Education Plan for Amma and moved from rote memorization to hands-on activity based teaching”

Amma’s teacher told us.

By using the tactile and interactive learning materials Chance for Childhood supplies, such as flashcards, coloured blocks, sand paper letters and abacuses learning becomes fun, practical and visual – essential for all children, not just those with additional needs. To the amazement of her teacher, Amma is now writing simple stories, solving basic addition and subtraction questions and most importantly staying alert and engaged in class. She shared:

“I didn’t enjoy learning before because Madam always wrote on the board for us to copy. Now, she uses materials that make learning fun. I enjoy reading with flashcards and solving maths with objects and counters and I like coming to school every day”

Every child deserves to achieve in school and be the best they can be. Your donations during the Big Give Christmas challenge can double the fun and double the learning for hundreds of children across East and West Africa. Help us reach our target and donate today
