What we do

We exist to ensure that every child in Africa can thrive from their early years through to adulthood.

Our mission

Across Africa, millions of children face systemic barriers to learning, health, and opportunity. Girls, children with disabilities, and children living in conflict or on the streets face the steepest challenges. But we know change is possible. Together with partners, supporters, children and their communities, we protect, educate and create lasting change for every child threatened by violence, neglect and conflict. Our mission is to fight for children across Africa to lead independent lives through urgent action in education, health and economic resilience.

Inclusive education

Our Goal: Every child learns and thrives.

Inclusive education is an approach that supports all children to thrive in regular schools. Through our inclusive education work, we reach children who have fallen through the cracks. Many of the most marginalised children, including those with disabilities, end up leaving education early because local schools and teachers aren’t equipped to give them the support they need.

In schools, we’re working with teachers to identify developmental delays and disabilities in children early, so they can get the support they need. In communities, we’re working with children and their parents to improve enrolment, retention and learning outcomes – giving children the best chance to succeed in the classroom.

Economic empowerment

Our goal: Every family economically secure.

Through livelihoods initiatives, we equip vulnerable families with the tools and education they need to provide for themselves and their children. These include access to financial services, savings groups, and small business support, with a focus on climate-smart livelihoods that can withstand environmental shocks.

We also focus on expanding access to social protection schemes for more vulnerable and marginalised populations.

Health

Our goal: Every child grows up healthy and safe.

We promote good health for children by improving access to basic health services, providing health education in communities, strengthening community health practices, and providing mental wellness support.

We train community health workers, run regular sessions on nutrition, hygiene, and maternal health, and organise peer support groups. By introducing standardised early-screening tools and strengthening referral systems, such as our award-winning Disability Detect App, we connect children and families to the health services they need.

We know what works

…in education

We’ve seen a 98% rise in inclusive classroom practices under the Best Start Together project in Ghana.

…in economic empowerment

140 families are now involved in income-generating activities as part of the Big Pig Project, up from just one family at the start, and 152 children with disabilities are newly attending school after the first year.

 …in health

Our Disability Detect App won the Education Innovation Award from Theirworld and has screened over 27,000 children for disabilities so far.
